The Great Crusade - Enemies of The Emperor books

 Well met fellow hobby enthusiasts.

I’m very pleased that the initial plan for the Enemies of The Emperor Great Crusade era expansions for the Age of Darkness rules has been accomplished.

Books 1 & 2 have been finished for a few years now but they were in need of a facelift and some small changes to bring them into line with the current rules from Forge World.

It was only upon these edits that I realised this project started way back with the Warhammer 40000 6th Ed rules - crazy to think the game has moved on 3 editions since and is now a completely different rule set.

So these books are now firmly set in the grim darkness of the not-as-far-as-before future, which I think suits the armies within in terms of depth for narrative, non-competitive play. There are full army lists in the books and these have been written from a narrative perspective - aside from a few necessary additions all the units, their weapons, equipment and descriptions arise from the fantastic characterisations of these aliens and humans as depicted in the Horus Heresy novels. Some more competitively minded hobbyists may feel that this army lists aren’t as competitive or more competitive than they would like but the emphasis here is on telling a new story or recreating a familiar story with the games we play rather than winning grand tournaments.

So in that spirit I give you the Enemies of the Emperor project.

GREAT CRUSADE BOOK 1 - Conception

Contains full army lists for The Laer, The Megarachnids, The Storm Scions, The Nurthene, The Olamic Quietude and The Nephilim. It also contains all the information on special rules, wargear etc that is needed to play these forces.

GREAT CRUSADE BOOK 3 - Compliance

Contains the full army list for The Orks. It also has rules for Agents of The Emperor, including Assassins and Rogue Traders and Agents of the Void, including all the members of the Cabal and other xenos mercenaries. A large section of the book is given over to a Great Crusade campaign system which can either be used alongside games on a tabletop or as a stand alone board game (with the ability to switch between the two if a campaign stagnates). It also contains all the information on special rules, wargear etc that is needed to play the forces covered within.

It’s been an immensely enjoyable, frustrating, heartbreaking and exciting project to work on and I’d like to give a massive thank you to all those who have support me in writing them and shown an interest in the project, you really have kept me going when the wheels all fell off. I am but one man so please do excuse any formatting or typo issues - I think I've caught them all, but I may have missed one or two - at least there's no tourists in any of the photos though...

I do have plans for potentially two more volumes, covering the use of some of these factions (and new ones) in games of Adeptus Titanicus and another volume containing some of the races I haven’t as yet covered (as more information is released by Black Library and Forge World)

Hopefully you’ll be inspired by the contents to create a fantastical collection of space gribblies that you’d like to share. If that is the case you can sign up to the Xenos of the Great Crusade group on Facebook (link in the navigation bar to the left) where we can all inspire each other with our hobby skills and ideas.

If you’d like to play with these models then you can also keep an eye out for King Fluff presents Events. We will be running our second Xenocide gaming event early in 2021 (so that’s a full 5 months of hobby to get a force together) where all players bring both a xenos force from one of the three books and an Imperium force and get their game on randomly picking one of these armies to play with. The first one was loads of fun and we anticipate the second to be even better.

Well thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy your trip into the glory days of the Great Crusade.

I’m off for a nap.
