King Fluff presents Events
Hello again.
Over the last 12 months you may likely have seen a lot of posts centered around forces and scenery I was preparing for the various events I had scheduled for the coming season of war. These events range from a narrative arc exploring the conflicts of the Cataclysm of Iron set during the Horus Heresy to the glory days of the Great Crusade as mankind explored the stars and ended the oppressive regimes of xenos tyrants. My aim was to lay on a smorgasbord of narratives and game systems to not only cater for existing players in their preferred system but to also allow players to experiment in other systems or story lines.
We try to lay on different formats for games both across the series of events and within each event, such as Centurion or Frontline Battle games or Zone Mortalis in both enclosed and open spaces - we feel this is important in order to give players a gaming experience they might not have very often in their retrospective gaming groups.
This year was the year of the Xenos, we kicked off the year with a world's first, an event that played out the expansion of the Imperium during the Great Crusade as it tackles the horrors awaiting them in the cold void. Players brought 1000pts of an Imperial force and 1000pts of a Xenos force presented in the Great Crusade books. All games were randomly matched so no two games were alike. This was a fantastic event for those players who wanted to try something different and work on a hobby project with a defined goal.

Currently we have planned events that cover Age of Darkness, Age of Darkness with the Great Crusade expansion and a very special culmination event which draws the series of events to a close. These events have now been planned right through 2021 and 2022, providing opportunities for veterans of the Cataclysm of Iron and new recruits alike to fully immerse themselves in games covering galactic conflict on a multitude of scales.
Here are some examples of the boards we use for our events. Each board has its own deployment map and its own victory conditions alongside a scenario which all go towards immersing players in battles set on particular planets or within planetary systems. We use a primary, secondary and tertiary system for scoring that is further augmented by players conduct and hobby skill. We try to do a mix of tables that provide a different gaming experience from each other, from rad polluted deserts, to lush jungles, from claustrophobic caverns to the vaulted interiors of Mechanicum research facilities.
We also include 'feature tables' which are away from general viewing on the gaming floor. These tables features atmospheric lighting and game play that requires the players to be away from the general hubub of the event so they get the most from the experience. These tables tend to have a twist in the scenario to keep both players on their toes.

Our plan is to now continue this success and run more Xenocide events during 2021 and 2022. We will be keepng score of how each races does but the prizes for the events will be based on the modelling and painting of the forces players bring along.
As for the future, like many event organisers we have had our plans interrupted by COVID19 but that hasn't meant that we have stopped, we have cast our gaze further out to the galactic west and are now planning events, with a new storyline, which should see us playing exciting and immersive games right upto 2025.

As soon as Government guidance permits we will be booking spaces and organising tickets for the events planned for next year (as well as putting together some more awesome player packs, jammed full of goodies). If you'd like to know more then please feel free to follow the King Fluff page on Facebook or search King Fluff presents on Eventbrite, or simply Google Cataclysm of Iron and Xenocide I, to find out more.
We look forward to seeing you at an event soon.

ReplyDeleteHey Conscriporis. Sorry for the late reply - for some reason Blogger hasn't been sending notifications. Our events take place in the Midlands, about 45mins from Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham in a place called Pooley Park - an old colliery site turned into a nature reserve.
