Introducing JohnGG

My journey in to the Heresy started on the back of finishing a 3000 point army of Minotaur space marines for 40K.  I therefore did not want to see another space marine anywhere my painting table.

The lure of myriad conversion possibilities, low model count armies and generally always wanting to be a little different saw me lunge into the Mechanicum with school boy enthusiasm.  No sooner had Forgeworld posted up the 5 man Castellax unit on their website, did I have 5 Castellax sitting in front of me waiting to be built.

However my Mechanicum fix was just that and I soon began pining for legionnaires.  With remorseless brutality, a penchant for big gun siege warfare and brutal heavy shock assaults countered with a flawed genius Primarch with Daddy issues heading them, what’s not to love about the Iron Warriors?

For me the Iron Warriors are a sandbox where you can explore and flesh out most of the more traditional Legion tactics endemic of the the Legiones Astartes.  They’ll also Traitors and everyone knows, bad boys are cool. Aaand because I’m a VERY lazy painter they are by and large pretty easy and quick to paint. I am one of those gamers who likes to completely immerse themselves into the story and so for my Iron Warriors I’d be sticking to infantry, armour and large calibre artillery.  The only things which will be moving quickly would be the shells from by big guns.

After many victories,  [and a few minor defeats we don’t tell the Primarch about]  I began to look for a new challenge. All very well pounding your enemy to dust from afar but I was blood-lusting for the cut and thrust of swift action.  And what could be more different than the White Scars. Where the Iron Warriors were cold and calculating the Scars are spontaneous and emotive. Where the Iron Warriors were a solid rock of defence the Scars are a mercurial tumult.

I’ve now built a solid 3000 points of around a ‘Wheels and Wings’ theme.  Mostly bikes and planes. Though with the Malevolence now having dropped I’ll be branching out into other options available to the White Scars.

Also watch out for my Fledgling Legion Xestobiax Maniple as I build the last defenders of Prospero.  Who doesn’t like a fleet of Reaver Titans with forbidden Xenos tech at their hearts…?!!!
